I assume (since the second board didn't catch fire) the problem with
the fire must have been some kind of fault on the first board, like a
short, that I didn't get. The capacitor is (I believe)installed
properly. Looking at the board like it is shown here:

the - side (gold on my cap, not white) is facing up. All of the
other components are installed as shown on that diagram. Still can't
get the board to connect though. Perhaps my problem is how I'm
connecting to the car? As I said before, my car has the 2x2
connector, and I have it connected to the car as follows:
Pin 1 goes to ground
Pin 4 goes to K
Pin 8 goes to L
Pin 9 goes to +12V
Sound right?
