I suspect the reason that there aren't any (or many) OBD to USB interfaces is because when the software was written for the interface chips (like the ELM chips) USB wasn't as popular as RS232. Or at least USB interfaces weren't readily available on cheap processors. Now microchip, cygnal, and many other companies make cheap processors that have USB ports. The challenge is in implementing the OBD protocol on these processors. If only ELM would port their code to one of them. :0)

I heard that USB interfaces cannot handle timing correctly
(absolutely needed in OBD communication).

For other projects i use FTTDI chip to conver rs232 to usb.

Anyway i also read few posts regarding a working USB ISO interface
around (maybe in this forum), take a look.
