Re: Total lack of information

I'm glad I've provoked some reaction. I have total respect for people
who make a living from developing and selling scantool software,
developed from their own investigation. What I object to is members
joining a group who's aim is to openly develop interfaces and
software, freely advertise their own software to an ideal audience
and then make a fuss about making a reasonable contribution in the
spirit of group development.

I've been asked why I don't explore the VW protocol myself. The whole
reason I joined this group was so I didn't have to waste time with
someone else's software trying to figure out the protocol when it's
already been done. The protocol is not owned by anyone in this group
and is of little commercial value and I doubt that VAG are in the
slightest bit bothered. Complaining that releasing it will
financially ruin anyone with a commercial scantool is ridiculous.

I find the attitude of mediocrity expressed in this group rather
disappointing and the mention in a previous post that it's members
are only interested in reaping piddling financial reward from
the 'investment of hours of work', depressing. I'm sure most people
in this group joined it for pleasure rather than gaining cash.

This will be my last post, which many of you will no doubt be glad
of. If I discover anything of value, I will be only too pleased to
share it with everyone in the group, for which I will expect
absolutely no monetary recompense whatsoever. I hope some members
will reconsider the meaning of the words 'open' and 'group' which
certainly does not mean the private trading of information.
