No ISO-9141 systems use what I consider to be handshaking, and Jeff's
design definitely doesn't. The fact that RTS/DTR lines are used does
not mean that handshake is implemented. If you have no L-Line you just
set up those lines once and then forget them. The beauty of that
design is that it is isolated and the PC side of the interface does
not require any power supply/
