Hello
i believe you are confusing the 'bidirectional' and 'Full Duplex' communication.
all protocol are bidirectional but non is full-duplex. it is because you must wait for High level on K-Bus or for low on J1850 or for silence on Can Bus
if a tester is not bidirectional you can not use a such scanner :-)) or they mean not full-duplex ( receiving data while transmitting.)
normally all the scanner are in fact bidirectional same if the manufacturermeans it is not .

Hi,
I'm sorry if my question is confusing. I gather that OBD-II
communication is bi-directional. I'm referring the
"bi-directional" in the way that at least one of the commericial
scanner companies do: For example, Autoxray explains in their FAQ
that their scanners are not capable of getting bidirectional data:
http://www.autoxray.com/footer/faq.aspx 5th question from the top
What they seem to mean is the ability to query a particular sensor and
then get readings from it.. I have found that most of the software can
read oxygen sensors, but most cannot read the pressure control
solenoid that I mentioned.
I guess I am asking the ability to read various non O2 sensors.
