RE: [opendiag] Windows software

Guys, I found enough information on the VAG cars to get the first part of
the interface working. Currently I can read the ECM code etc from the car. I
have been looking for some more details about the various blocks/functions
and such. I was wondering if this information is in the factory manuals for
VWs?

Currently the device does work with VAG cars but only as basic OBD-II. Thus
it has all the functionality of the ScanTool.net device, except it has a LCD
and operates stand alone. See www.sterntech.com.

Currently the device has a simple serial interface, where you can send
command and such, also firmware updates are done using simple Xmodem which
just about every terminal program supports.

I would like to take the device further and offer features such as ECM
reprogramming and enhanced data but I have trouble finding the information
to add support for such items.

Is it working with VAG cars? I am interested in an
alternative/competitor to Ross-Tech's VAG-COM ... But
really my only gripe with VAG-COM is that you must
have the Windows machine to use it. Stand-alone would
be good so long as firmware updates can be handled via
non-Windows means and so long as it is still price
competitive. If it is a consideration (and I have also
offered to Ross-Tech with no response) I would be
willing to assist in a Linux counterpart for such a
project.

As far as "enhanced" features, OBD-II firmware updates
is a very hot item currently. But every device I've
seen that does it is rather expensive -ie, the one
offered to me as an Upsolute reseller is over 1300EU
and ONLY handles the reprogramming of ECUs.
