OK.. in my country (Brazil) there are many cars which use older ECU (for you)... The new cars use KWP1281, including my car... (only K line)
I use VAG-COM to access, and a myself interface.... I was interested in more info about KWP1281 to built my proper software

96 or 94 jetta kwp1281,only have k Line.
of course there also have new car which is syncronous with VW.such as
polo Golf AUDI in my country.which perhaps running kwp2000 or can bus.
