Re: extra byte in engine speed response

Hi Gerard,

I purchased Alex Peper's INDO-3 gateway, which is manufactured for
him by Multiplex Engineering (www.obd-2.com,
www.multiplex-engineering.com). I got a discount for being a
student.

Alex's software is great. The only problem is that I wanted
continuous monitoring, without having to have a laptop always in my
car. I'm not sure, but your temp gauge may be the same as mine;
linear to about half way and then will not move until the car is just
about overheating. That's why I wanted the real-time monitoring, for
the engine temp.

Anyway, so I've put together a microcontroller and LCD display and
have started to communicate directly to the INDO-3 gateway, without
my laptop. If I was thinking, I probably would have programmed a PDA
instead, it would have cost a lot less than my little 'project'. But
then again, it wouldn't have been as fun.

Other things I'm planning on having the microcontroller do:
- stopwatch with lap deltas (time difference from the previous
lap, speed diff)
- trip computer (using ADC to determine how much fuel is left in the
tank, OBD or direct to ECU for the current MAF for current fuel
consumption rate to determine how far I can go before running out of
gas)
- temperature readings (engine temp from OBD or ECU, inside and
outside air temp from other temperature sensors)
- directional compass
- miscellaneous stats (number of trips, average time per trip, total
running time, etc)

Let me know if you have any other questions.
