You need a negative voltage on the RTS input to the adapter, or it will
not function. It should be no higher than -3V. VWtool and Ross-Tech's
software will put RTS low when they are running. When you run the
loopback test in a communications program like Hypterterminal, RTS
is high. I have not found any comm software that will allow RTS to be
set low. That's why I suggest taking it from another serial port.
In this way, you whatever you type in the comm program will echo back
to your screen -- IF the adapter is working correctly.
