17544 code help

I have a 1999 1.8 passat wagon with 19000 miles. Recently the check
engine came on and it listed this as the fault code. I am aware of
what the code signifies but wanted to know if it was safe to clear
the code and drive it until it comes on again or should I take it
into the dealer asap?
